The United States Cycling Team closed out its 2008 Olympic Games campaign on Saturday with mixed results as it claimed a pair of top-ten finishes in the women's cross country mountain bike race, but failed to earn a placing in the men's event. Mary McConneloug placed seventh to lead all Americans on the day while compatriot Georgia Gould finished eighth. On the men's side, both Adam Craig and Todd Wells were pulled from the race after being lapped by the lead riders.

The United States collected three more medals in the sport of cycling on Friday when Americans Mike Day, Donny Robinson and Jill Kintner were among the first athletes to grace the podium in the newest Olympic sport of Bicycle Motocross (BMX). Day and Robinson won the silver and bronze medals in the men's contest, while Kintner added a bronze in the women's race. The 2008 USA Cycling elections concluded on Aug. 15 and after record voter turnout, USA Cycling members elected several representatives to thier respective Boards of Trustees which comprise the political structure of USA Cycling. The 2008 election saw a record number of 3,852 votes cast as USA Cycling announced elected trustees to the BMXA, NCCA, NORBA, USCF and USPRO boards.

Bicycle Motocross made its Olympic debut Wednesday as American athletes illustrated their might by advancing all three men's competitors to Thursday's semifinal heats. Kyle Bennett, Mike Day and Donny Robinson all qualified for the round of 16. By doing so, the U.S. is the only country that advanced three competitors to Thursday's semifinals. In the women's event, Jill Kintner qualified seventh and will compete in the semifinals on Thursday before the Olympic Games hand out its first-ever BMX medals.

At the Olympic Games on Monday, the UCI held a press conference to publicize a new plan for the structure of professional cycling following weeks of negotiations between the sport's international governing body and Editions Pillipe Amaury, the owner of the ASO and the Societe du Tour de France. As a result, the UCI unveiled key elements of the plan. To show its support of the UCI, the EPA and the proposed agreement, USA Cycling issued the following statement on Monday afternoon from China.

Day four of Olympic track cycling at the Laoshan velodrome ended on a sour note for the U.S. squad after Sarah Hammer crashed out of the women's points race and Jennie Reed was eliminated from medal contention with a quarterfinal loss in the women's match sprint. With one day of track racing remaining in Beijing, the Madison pairing of Mike Friedman and Bobby Lea will give the U.S. its last chance to collect a medal in the discipline.

The USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships came to a close today with five new national champions being crowned at the ADT Event Center Velodrome in Southern California. The final day started out with Eric Meier having a stellar ride in the men's 17-18 ten-kilometer scratch race. After a breakaway of three riders took control of the race in the final lap, Meier picked up his first stars-and-stripes jersey with a win over silver medalist Lanell Rockmore and bronze medalist Iggy Silva. Epes Harris and Dan Heeley rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth.

With no Americans competing in the lone medal event in track cycling on Saturday at the Olympic Games, all eyes were on Jennie Reed and Michael Blatchford as they contested the qualifying heats and preliminary rounds of the match sprint. At the end of the evening, Reed remained in contention for a medal, but Blatchford was eliminated, drawing a close to his Olympic experience. Reed will next square off against Lithuania's Simona Krupeckaite in Monday's quarterfinals. Also on Monday, Sarah Hammer will compete for a medal in the women's points race.

Eight more national titles were awarded on Saturday after an action-packed penultimate day at the USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships. After qualifying in first with a time of 11.432 over 200 meters, Lanell Rockmore breezed through his semi-final rounds and faced Epes Harris in the finals. Rockmore one the first two rounds to take the gold medal. In the race for bronze, Daniel Walker beat out Tynan Farley. Rounding out the podium in fifth was Trent Boyd.
