Velorbis & New Zealand's urban cycling movement

The Aucklander logo

A beautiful Velorbis Victoria Classic ladies bicycle was used to illustrate “Opinion: Back on the Chain Gang”; an article by John Landrigan on 1st September in The Aucklander, known as the 'voice' of Auckland's everyday people.

The article discusses urban cycling in central Auckland, notably the difference and benefits between cycling on busy roads vs. cruising on designated cycle paths. A significant investment into urban cycling infrastructure, a la Copenhagen, is a positive and realistic way to encourage more people to cycle.

Photographed in the article is Pippa Coom with her Velorbis Victoria Classic bicycle. She is a member of Cycle Action Auckland, who “cycles every day on her classic step-through bike imported from Copenhagen - a land where bikes are king” according to author John Landrigan. Velorbis Scrap Deluxe voted the No.1 gorgeous bicycle for stylish ladies

By uber-cool lifestyle blog Copenhagen Cycle Chic

Copenhagen Cycle Chic top 10 gorgeous bicycles

It’s official! The Velorbis Scrap Deluxe ladies bicycle is THE most gorgeous specimen on two wheels.

Copenhagen Cycle Chic says: “While the design of the upright bicycle is largely unchanged in 130 years, there are small variations on the different brands. There is just something about the form of Velorbis Scrap Deluxe that appeals. It's swan-like the way the top bar sweeps gracefully up to the handlebars, which, in turn reach out towards the rider in an embrace. The steely finish is modern and simple and the creamy balloon tyres inviting. The Scrap Deluxe is the most upright of these upright bikes and is truly a machine that gently encourages you to choose style over speed. Velorbis also is one of the few brands in this globalised market that produce their bicycles in Europe - northern Germany to be precise. An added design plus in our books.”

Velorbis definitely agrees.

Thanks to our friends at Copenhagen Cycle Chic for this honour, their exquisite taste and their tireless search for all things funky and lifestyle-friendly. Check out the feature in full at Copenhagen Cycle Chic.

The Velorbis expansion continues

New larger concept store opens in Copenhagen

Due to popular demand and the need for more space to showcase our ever-increasing range of exclusive designer classic bicycles, Velorbis has moved location to a new larger concept store in Copenhagen.

Velorbis has a wonderful network of retailers worldwide. We also think that it’s important to have a dedicated concept store to house all the Velorbis treats in the country where our bicycles are designed and in the city where a cycle-friendly culture is an integrated way of life.

Located in the heart of the trendy and desirable Frederiksberg area, the Velorbis range of classic ladies and gents upright bicycles including limited edition bicycle design, student cycles, 'old school' delivery bikes and fun family tricycles; and unique bicycle accessories, are carefully displayed in an art gallery environment. To Velorbis each bicycle is precious – the result of careful and loving design, development and production – and should be treated as a work of art.

Whenever you’re next in Copenhagen be sure to come by and visit the store. You’ll always receive a warm Velorbis welcome.

Velorbis in Bike Biz women in cycling article

Velorbis in Bike Biz women in cycling article March 2009

According to Bike Biz’s 2009 industry salary survey, women are still drastically underrepresented in the trade, with females representing as little as 5% of the UK’s bicycle business.

"Companies such as Velorbis are working hard to attract female consumers to cycling. But maybe the bike business needs to also work harder at tempting women to join the industry,” said Bike Biz.

We definitely agree with Bike Biz.

Velorbis has always strived to highlight the practicality and lifestyle benefits of cycling equally to both our male and female customers - and inject some glamour into the industry - through our imagery and our carefully designed range of classic bicycle icons that suit all lifestyle needs and personal styles.

The Times - "Sit up and take notice" article

The Times Sit Up and Take Notice article September 2007

Velorbis's Victoria Classic ladies bicycle and Churchill Classic gents bike were featured in The Times article - "Sit up and take notice" - in which journalist Andrew Martin applauds the return of a classic bicycle shape in his prelude to the 2007 London Cycle Show.

"A company called Velorbis will be exhibiting the latest in its range of 'elegant, classic bicycles at the show. The firm is Danish (the sit-up-and-beg has always been popular in Northern Europe), but its models have Anglophile names, and are described in fogeyish, fascinatingly non-PC language: 'Victoria, the ladies model, takes its curvilinear shape from the subtle, smooth lines of the female form'. While 'Churchill, our classic gents model, reflects the sturdy, muscular contours of the male physique.'"
